of penguins and gingerbread men

I cut out the cards for set 2 of the penguin counting, I decided that the activity was too big to do on the mat so he just set it out on the floor. Here is putting the numbers in order. He has pretty much got the hang of this but he does skip 16 when he is counting for some strange reason.

And counting the penguins, I had to help a bit with the bigger numbers, just by pointing to the penguins because he kept counting the same one twice and would end up with 23 or something. maybe putting counters over the penguins as he counts would help, might try that next time.
And this is the finished wreath he made, it has finally dried.
Ebi-kun is in between that 'nap every day' and 'no naps' stage. He can go for a couple of days but then he crashes, he if doesn't get a nap on day three, it is truely horrible and I suggest you don't come to visit on that day! So, at the moment I have to make him have a nap on a Monday because there is no chance to nap Tuesday because of my schedule. My latest trick for getting him to take his nap is by offering to do something exciting when he wakes up such a making the wreath or yesterday was making gingerbread men. He was quite tired yesterday so there wasn't much of a fight over nap time and as soon as he opened his eyes he said 'can we make gingerbread men now?' He was so excited to do it. It took me a while to decide which recipe to use, I don't like soft, chewy gingerbread men, they are just not right (in my minds eye) so I used the gingerbread house recipe from my moms old cookbook. I had to add extra flour because the dough was too sticky but it rolled out lovely and tastes good too.

I decorated this one for daddy ebi :o) My piping bag nozzle is really big, didn't realise until I tried to pipe on the icing.

  4. Hi there! I've enjoyed reading your blog for a few months now, bu tI think this is my first time to comment. I was suprised to hear that Ebi-kum skips 16 because my daughter (6 weeks away from 3 yrs.) always skips 16 as well. Interesting! We also have a similar napping situation. It drives me crazy! Thanks for your blog- keep it coming.
