Wooden Blocks

I love wooden blocks, they are so open ended and can be used to make all kinds of exciting things. We got Ebi-kun some new blocks to go with the set he had for his 1st birthday, he still uses them all the time but never had enough to create the structures in his head. Originally I was going to go for the plain ones but then I saw this beautiful set, they remind me of the Montessori colour tablets
and after I saw those, I also spotted these, they had a deal on if you buy both it was cheaper, so that is what we did.
So the last couple of days the little architect has been quite busy - bossing the foreman around (that will be me!) and some pretty impressive marble runs have been built.
He also discovered that these little people fit in the marble run holes, so they have also become little people slides.

I'm not sure what he is up to right now, he has the wooden blocks and his lego out...
I am not completely camera less, I used my mobile phone to take these but the camera on it is VERY basic, better than nothing I suppose.
Thank you to everyone who voted for Di, she didn't get through to the next round :o( and have you entered the competition yet? If not, get a wriggle on....

  1. What an amazing construction. I love blocks too, I start all my preschool classes with blocks as you can bring in so much language with them. The new block sets in their cases though? I am terrible at puzzles, I think I'd be crying before I got them all packed away!

as for packing them away, the big set has the shapes on the bottom of the box and the box of funny shapes I went mad with it yesterday because I couldn't get them back in and ended up drawing the shapes on the bottom after copying the photo on the box it came in.

  4. We love blocks so much in this house. We have quite a few like the ones you show, and we also have a lot of Kapla blocks. The boys make all sorts of things with them! I think it's a wonderful thing to encourage. Enjoy your blocks!

  5. Wow thats impressive - inspired by pitakora suwitchi?? Shou is so wanting me to make one of those with him but we haven't got enough blokes and Marina usually knocks them over. Shou is only just three. Is there a big difference in bloke tower constructing skills between now and four?

  8. gaijin wife - He has no problem making building etc with the blocks but the marble run is tricky, you have to make sure everything is aligned properly or it just doesn't work. He has recently started building simple runs by himself but when he wants some big fancy thing then I get roped into helping!
