2 down, 18 to go....

Before I get onto the project I just wanted to let everyone know that we are ok after last nights quake which hit around 11.30pm. I think it was a Mag4 here, Mag7.2 further north. I was asleep and it woke me up, I realised it was quite a big one so I got Ebi-kun out of bed, he had no idea what was going on. We stayed downstairs until it all calmed down then Ebi-kun came back to bed with me, in bed he wanted to know why we had woken him up to watch the boring earthquake news, couldn't daddy watch it by himself!

I didn't get as much sewing time the last couple of days because I had completely forgotten to prepare all Ebi-kuns 'stuff' for yochien, it is his opening ceremony tomorrow and he starts again on Monday. I had to re-label everything, if you are not sure what that entails then have a look at this post

Anyway, onto the April challenge, this was another biggie but I actually started it February last year! So I had the main part of the top sewn and that was it. I added the white boarder, made the binding tape and back and quilted it all together. I did FMQ on the white and diagonal lines through the colour blocks, not sure why, that was the creative urge I got a the time, probably a big no-no in quilting circles.
It turned out smaller than I thought it was going to be but then when I looked back in my sketch book I realised that originally I had planned a border of coloured squares all the way round and a white border to that, which would have made it much bigger - oh well. At least we have a new camp quilt now.
We usually go camping in Golden Week (end of April) and we had been talking about going to Fukushima this year to a place with a big dinosaur museum, we won't be heading there now, I'm not sure if the place is still there. Now we are thinking of staying closer to home and certainly not going anywhere near the coast.

  1. So sorry for all the trauma caused by the earthquake and aftershocks. Hope it settles soon.

In the meantime, your quilt is lovely. I like the free motion and more traditional diagonals together.

  2. It's scary how many quakes Japan has gotten in these past weeks. There's some serious realignment going on under it. I hope you and your family stay safe.

I LOVE the quilt. It's the next thing I want to try, probably this summer. It really looks fantastic and I bet it's very cozy.

  3. How about the dinosaur museum in Fukui? That's an excellent place, if you fancy a trip down to Kansai, and there should be lots of places to camp around there too. A bit far, I know ...
