Water babe......

I think the best thing about the campsite was the river running through it. It was a perfect kids playing type of river, in most parts it was only knee high, it was lined by trees so there was plenty of shade but the sun did get through in some places for those crazy sun-worshipers! When we got to the campsite the owner told us that part of the river was deep enough to swim in (if you are a kid maybe).

Ebi-kun loved it, he spent a lot of time floating around in his rubber ring and shooting daddy, he couldn't actually float off anywhere even though the current was strong enough to pull him along, the river was that shallow in parts his bum dragged on the bottom.

There one spot which was fairly deep, probably up to a mans chest at the most and the kids were climbing up the rock and jumping in. I never thought I would see the day when Ebi-kun would do it. He has always hated water being splashed on his face, but after practicing jumping off the little rock he decided to give the big one a go. He still had to hold daddy's hand, he did jump a couple of times by himself as long as daddy was nearby to scoop him out (he can't actually swim yet).

He came up spluttering then it was 'again, again'!

The rest of the time at the river we hunted for tadpoles and fish, looking for wee critters is always a good way to spend a sunny afternoon. It would be a great place to go with a bunch of friends, maybe next time...

  1. Boy does that bring back memories of when my boys were boys. They're grown men now. We went camping once every summer. Memories to last a lifetime. What a wonderful way to spend time as a family.

  2. Hee, that looks great! This reminds me of my 4yo son. Apart from a few months when he was very tiny he has always been pretty scared of swimming pools and whenever we go he always just clings to me very tightly instead of splashing around. Last time we went a few months ago though we managed to persuade him to try out a pretty big waterslide (on his dad's lap) and he loved it, despite the big splash under the water at the end and was on it again and again. He still wouldn't try any swimming though. Baby steps/strokes, I guess.
