Starry, Starry Buttons...

Ebi-kun has mastered sewing on buttons!

Hurrah, one job I do not enjoy much. He has been showing an interest in stars recently so I set up a little project for him.

First I showed him how to use carbon paper to trace his design onto the black fabric. It is the constellation of Leo (his birth sign), just in case you are not up to date with your stars.

Then he used back stitch to sew between all the points, he is getting quite good at back stitch now, I will have to introduce him to some new stitches soon.

Then, after raiding my button tin he sewed on stars on all the points.

He still needs help finishing off but he is getting better, I think I only had to untangle two messes this time! This was quite a sneaky way of introducing repetitive work.

Taa-daa finished.

We haven't decided what to do with it yet, probably mount it somehow like a picture, I suggested a small pillow but he told me not to be so stupid, it would be really uncomfortable valid point!

  2. That's a terrific idea. I had been wondering what to do next in the sewing department with my (a bit) younger daughter. Seeing the fabric & hoop made a clicking sound in my brain just now.
Now to work out what would be enticing enough for her to keep at it.
