Into the dark...

The latest Big Kids Magazine is out, as you know we are fans and have contributed in the past, such as the memory game and the Treasure boats. This time the theme is Into The Dark.

It took quite a while to decide what to make or do, as we were brainstorming Ebi-kun talked about caves and going into a dark hole, so we decided to make one. We used a shoes box and painted the inside black. 

As that was drying, he got out the plasticine and started making scary monsters, we used glue to stick them to the ceiling and walls. Then made an 'Ebi-kun' out of card, so it looked like he was entering the scary cave....

As we worked on the monsters we made up a poem, we had, 3 verses down by the time we finished and then we worked on it a bit more, using the senses as a way of exploration....

The magazine encourages adults and children to work side by side, it is something that both Ebi-kun and I love doing, so if you haven't checked out the magazine yet, go and do so!

Our Big Kids Collaboration

I have impatiently been waiting for a special delivery after hearing that the latest batch of magazines had been mailed out. Finally, it arrived yesterday evening! The new Big Kids Magazine. Big Kids is a clever concept dreamt up by Australian artists, Jo Pollitt and Lilly Blue. The idea is that of a magazine where children and artists work side by side and the finished result is for both children and adults. BIG stands for Bravery Imagination and Generosity and it encourages creativity and curiosity, as you know, this is right up my street!

We are excited to have our memory game in the magazine this time round, in fact the whole magazine is full of games as this issues theme is Game On. Ebi-kun has already had me playing one of the board games 3 times, and the dinner nearly got burnt because of it! Plus it sparked his imagination to make another game of his own. Our memory game has been played many times since we made it and would be a fun addition to any games drawer.

BIG Kids Magazine...

It arrived! Ebi-kun scuttled off with it before I had chance to look at it properly...

BIG which stands for Bravery Imagination Generosity, is a pretty unique type of magazine, it consists of work which pairs and adult artist of some kind with a child artist. For example, this issue there is a 'person tree' drawn by a child and a poem written by an adult that goes with the drawing. There is a lot of contributions from artists of all sizes from all over the world and collaborations such as the treasure boats. Ebi-kun's treasure boat was included in the poster that Lilla A put together, can you spot it?

Ebi-kun was very excited to find his ship in the magazine, he says that he feels happy and like he is famous! The magazine makes good reading and it laid out in an artistic fashion plus the paper quality is lovely too. They encourage you to write in the magazine, complete drawings and your own projects, this is the only problem I have with it, and just because I can't bring myself to write in books, it just feels wrong!
