Way-Hey It's A Snow Day!

I am sure there are plenty of people rolling their eyes right now, but this snow stuff is a pretty big deal where we live. We don't get to see much snow, so I expected the previous weekends flurry would be our annual dollop…apparently not!

Friday it was snowing steadily all day but didn't start sticking until mid afternoon, by Friday night it was coming down thick and fast…

Yasutoki was supposed to be going to work the next day but our local train wasn't running, snow day! So, once a month Yasutoki works on a Saturday, which means we have a full day of mommy and Ebi-kun time. Since we don't get so much time to do cool stuff these days, I usually have something exciting planned. This week we did a load of kitchen science experiments, some bread making and then succumbed to the Olympics. I will do separate posts for the experiments.

In the afternoon the snow turned to rain and then it stopped so all the neighbours were out clearing the road. The people across the road had their carport smashed in from the snow sliding off the roof, I feel really sorry for them, this is the second time it has happened and they supposedly had their roof fixed so that it wouldn't happen after the first incident.

We were lucky, we didn't have any blackouts here and Yasutoki had made it home before the weather got bad, plenty of people had to suffer a cold night!

Sunday, the boys went off to aikido, I stayed home and sewed, then after lunch we went to the supermarket. Well, they dropped me off so Ebi-kun could go and get his haircut, usually I am just finishing up when they get back…not this time, I was stuck in the supermarket for almost 2.5 hours!

And the supermarket was hardly a barrel of fun…obviously the delivery trucks hadn't been able to get through, there was no eggs, tofu or fish, very little meat, bread and milk and a poor selection of fruit and veg - basically all the fresh stuff. Made for an interesting shopping experience! It was somewhat reminisce of just after the earthquake.

Fun times! Hope your weekend was more exciting!

Snow Day! If you lived here you would be excited too!

Where we live we usually get a slight smattering of snow, for one day, once a year. This year we got the worse snow blizzard to hit Tokyo since the beginning of time…or something like that. Luckily it happened at the weekend so the kids were in their element!

Saturday, I had fun making a snow boy on a bike, when I posted this to Facebook my mom and a couple of friends thought it was Ebi-kun covered in snow! You can't really tell from the photo but he only has one leg because I couldn't get to the other side of the bike to build his second leg!

The snow came down all day and well into the night, here is snow boy on bike before I headed to bed…

Sunday, the snow had stopped and we had beautiful blue skies, all the kids on the street were out, making igloo's having snowball fights, just generally larking around. Ebi-kun only came in to have some lunch them he was back out there, when you don't get to see the white stuff so often, you have to take full advantage of it!

It has started to thaw now, I doubt there will be anything but sludge soon! Great timing from Mother Nature! And whilst Ebi-kun played (and after I had finished playing in the snow) I did some sewing, some homework and watched some project runway. I know I am seasons behind on this, I have just discovered Project Free TV so I have been devouring the show, now I know why everyone was raving on about it!

If you have any favourite TV shows, what do you recommend? I was hooked on CSI & NCIS for quite some time but I have got a bit bored of dead bodies, blimey that sounds sick! Anyway, I would rather have something some light hearted to watch! Recommendations in the comments please!

And, if you are not already on my email list, what are you waiting for? All the early bird offers, gossip and news go out to the list first…

Breaking News - Snow in Tokyo

Well, OK, it was breaking news 4 days ago! Tokyo is very much like London when it comes to snow, more than 10 snowflakes and the place is thrown into chaos. Luckily for us, Monday was coming of age day, so we all get the day off - hurrah.
Perfect timing for playing in the snow....

Of course, there were snowball fights...

And snowball rolling or even snowman making

We even had daddy on the job, i should point out that we were the only family playing out in the snow on the whole street with exception to the two little boys up the road that came out for a short time, what is wrong with people?

Out punk snowman, looking rather fine in the yard, he looks a bit worse for wear now since he has started to melt.

On a more serious note, there have been calls for people to monitor their electric usage, since the cold snap everyone must be wacking on the heaters and the Kanto grid is almost at full capacity, if you are in the are, remember to turn electrical items off if you are not using them. We will freeze if the electric goes off! Thank you - public service announcement is over.

S-N-O-W

Yes, at last we have had some snow, just a smidgin'. It started snowing about 7.30am so by 8am we were out trying to catch snowflakes. It is Babyebi's first time to see real snow so he was pretty excited. Luckily it stuck for a while so we went back out a couple of hours later to make snowballs and run round in circles discovering his own footprints - very cute. But of course once his hands were frozen (and me) and we had to come back in, we had tears, but before the tears we managed to mae a very small snowman, more a snowdwarf.....

Of course, the workmen didn't turn up today, Babyebi was disappointed about that, he has ben loving watching them work through the window, especially when the guy - who looks about 97, gets his mini digger going, I can't imagine how excited he will be when they turn up with a cement mixer.
The forecast was for snow a couple of days ago but it never appeared but that didn't stop us from making our own snowman, a rather sticky affair using glue paste and cotton wool, I did the cutting of the hat and arms, under strict instruction and Babyebi did the sticking.

I also managed to make a couple of the pixie hats from Bend The Rules and Babyebi kindly modelled for me, they turned out lovely, shame I have a little boy and not a little girl...

Talking of all things handmade, there is still time to sign up for the Pay It Forward
Finally, have you seen the counter on the bottom lefthand-side, i put it on just before Christmas and it is over 2000 visitors from 50 countries, that just blows me away, thank you for stopping by, it would be one mighty continent swap if everyone got involved (and a mighty headache for me to organise LOL).
