A hot weekend at home

The summer is here, which means I will be house bound for most of it, I am NOT a summer babe! Daddy Ebi decided Friday that he would do some more of the fence, I haven't been able to do anything to our little garden patch because he hadn't finished the fence, so whilst he toiled a way in the baking heat, I sat inside reading my gardening book - OK, OK, those who know me can STOP laughing right now! (I am famous for being a totally non green fingered person) BUT I have got flowers that I grew from seed in the front patch...

And, just in case that wasn't impressive enough, we have cucumbers and aubergines too

Of course any accomplished gardener is probably sniggering at my efforts but for me it is a major achievement. We don't have a lot of garden, just a little patch, so I am thinking of making it into a little veg patch, it gets plenty of sun so that isn't a problem, I just have to decide what will fit in such a small space - any advice is welcome! You can see the size I am talking about here...(and the new fence)

DaddyEbi putting up the fence, babyEbi trying to dig up the post that is keeping then fence upright!

The finished fence, I will move the pots out when I have decided what to do with the patch.

  1. It all looks lovely. How about a veggie and herb garden? Go for veggies that grow up instead of out - pole beans along the fence, cherry tomatoes, other tomato, peppers... Then intersperse with herbs. Less bare land that way and more bang for your buck.

  2. Looks like a wonderful little garden! You have more space for a garden that I do! I agree with the previous commenter, those types of things would go great in this space, and herbs are things you can use right away.

  4. I think that's about twice the size of my tiny vegetable garden, which also doesn't get very much sun, you're set! Beans, peas, edamame in the back, along with some sunflowers and tomatoes, and everything else up front. I like to read John Jeavons' How to Grow More Vegetables, and I also think the Square Foot Gardening book is fun, and good for packing more vegetables into less space.
