Ebi-kun's first Stop Motion Film....

Yesterday I was going through my reader and stooped to watch this skateboard stop motion film on Craft: anyway.... Ebi-kun came along and watched the skateboard clip too and asked how they did it. So, I gave him, what I thought was a simplified version of how to make a stop motion movie but he just looked at me as if I had a wellie on my head so I suggested that when he got home from yochien we would make one.
That is what we did, he didn't 'get' what it was all about so I explained that we would build the pink tower and after each block was added we would take a photo, when they are shown quickly it will look like they are moving, more blank looks. We set up, I couldn't find the tripod so ended up resting the camera on a stool, once we got going he really got into it and understood what to do so he carried on and ended up doing an extrension with the brown stair too. When it was done I uploaded everything onto the computer and put it together in imovie, (finally I am making use of what I studied at uni) Ebi-kun picked the music and this is the finished piece of work....

Once the whole thing was put together the penny dropped and he totally understood how it all worked, he is really proud of this little film and would be chuffed to bits if you left him a comment. I am not sure what Maria Montessori would have made of it all but I feel like it was a great learning experience and a great extension to do with the Montessori materials. I should warn you, he is already scheming on what to do next, I think next time I will have to introduce some techie stuff like lighting etc. :o)

  2. Wow. I'm impressed by how complicated the design is. He must have really been able to envisage the outcome while he was doing it.

Dear Ebi-kun, I watched your movie and I really liked it. You made some great patterns with the stairs and tower pieces. Thank you for sharing your work!

  13. Ebi-Kun, I really enjoyed your movie. It is very cool to watch the blocks move as if by magic. Your extensions using the pink tower and the brown stair are very interesting, keep up the good work!

  14. I think that this use of technology would have been embraced by Maria. We need to remember that she was a very innovative scientist in her time and did not remain static. She was judicious and thoughtful in everything she did and would be so in regards to technology, but I do think that she would support this type of use.

  15. That's great! We used to do stop motion films when we were kids. We used all sorts of things - stuffed toys and legos were among our favourites. My brother made some pretty funny lego movies and a few of our family inside jokes come from the sound-bites that were captured in the 2-5 second filming (we used a video camera to make our films).

Have fun! Looking forward to seeing what else you can come up with!
