Bread Disaster

I promise not to turn into one of those crazy juice ladies who post 300 pics of juice a day and talk about it obsessively! But… I have just invested in a juicer, we only had a blender before so technically we have been having smoothies. What a difference the juicer makes and I have been trying some pretty odd blends but so far (apart from too much ginger in this pink number) they have all been delicious!

This has beetroot, carrot, pineapple, basil and ginger in it, next time I will skip the ginger!

But after you are done with the juice you are left with a big pile of pulp, which has lots of fibre in it, in the booklet that came with the book it showed bread made with the pulp. So, I did like any sensible person would do, I didn't read the instructions and just threw the pulp in with the mix to make the bread… not such a hot idea!

Total bread fail! Oh well, next experiment will be with pancakes, I will let you know how that goes…

Dark Chocolate and Cherry Bread…

This is another Paul Hollywood recipe, it actually makes 2 loves but I kept half the dough plain and just put the chocolate and cherries in the other half. Then I left it to rise over night, left a note for Ebi-kun to turn the oven on in the morning (he always gets up early at the weekend to watch a TV show he likes) then all I had to do was pop it in the oven.

Bloody marvelous! Although the cherry wasn't such a strong flavour it was something like a black forest gâteaux cake but in bread. So good!

There is nothing quite as delicious as homemade bread…

I recently got Paul Hollywoods book 100 Great Breads and I LOVE it. We do have a bread machine and I admit that whenever possible, I just chuck everything in there…I am sure I would get disapproving looks from Paul, but you, I have stuff to do!
Some bread though, really needs to be made by hand and one of the great things to make with kids is bread, it is pretty difficult to screw it up and it is very tactile, a great sensory activity! Ebi-kun is getting quite handy in the itched these days, he pretty much did it all himself…

Weighing the ingredients…

Mixing to form a dough…

Cleaning up whilst the dough rested. He needed a bit of help with the rolling…

Chopped the potatoes and placed them on the dough…

Brush with oil and sprinkle on the herbs…

Pop in the oven - he is OK putting things in but I take them out because he is not quite tall enough to do it safely yet…

Ready to eat! Nom, Nom, Nom…

Don't forget, the kitchen bootcamp starts soon AND I have a fab video series with a panel of experts lined up for you too!
