Keith Haring Art Day...

We had fun learning about Keith Haring. We don't actually have a book about his work so we turned to the net and had a look through the Keith haring website instead. Then it was time to do some Keith Haring inspired art.

We started by making a couple of jointed paper dolls from a cereal box...

Ebi-kun's first attempt, the pieces were too small so we had to redo them, of course, I only have fancy brads/fasteners!

He then drew around the paper doll onto coloured card, then moved the position of the arms and leg and did another one of different coloured card. Before cutting them out, he traced round them with a thick black marker pen.

Then cut out the pieces and stuck them to a nice bright piece of paper. Lots of bright coloured paper/card is needed for this project!

Final touches were to add the little black movement lines.....

And done... not sure what this new 'sticking tongue out' pose is all about! Hopefully he will grow out of that soon.

How To Make Pop Up Christmas cards - tutorial

We made our cards on one of the days Ebi-kun was off from school sick. It is really easy to do and quite impressive when you are finished.

What you need:

Card ( we used some that we had marbled earlier in the week)

Scissors

Glue

Pens/Crayons and white card for your pop up image

1. Take a piece of card.

2. Fold it in half, so that the crease in the picture below is at the top of the card.

3. You don't need to really draw these lines but for the sake of the tutorial, draw two lines, about 2cm long and the same distance apart.

4. Cut along the lines and push the piece inwards.

5. When you open up the card, you will have a little pop up area as shown below.

6. This bit is important, you need to measure the distance from top of the pop up section to the top of the card, this is the maximum height of your pop up image. We placed a piece of card as shown below and cut it to size and then Ebi-kun used the card to make the pop up image.

When you have drawn your image, cut it out and stick it with glue to the front on the pop up box section.

That's it, you are done. You can cut more than one pop up section and make them different sizes for more of a 3D effect. 

We got quite busy and made a big pile of cards, all different of course. If you make some, let me know how they turn out!

adorable little printable....

First off I want to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who filled in my questionnaire, it has really helped me see what I was missing and raised some great topics to tackle plus reassured me that I was on the right track with most of it.

I'm taking a business course at the moment, I'm the second week in, there is a tonne of homework which I'm really enjoying but it doesn't leave much time for anything else! Today I will be working on the new website and working through the next step in this weeks module and I will also be doing some tinkering over here again (I hope not too many people noticed that I crashed the whole blog last week!)

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to give you a little thank you for your help, so I rustled up a printable for you. It can be used in two ways - I love multi-functional things, don't you? So, you can fold it to make a mini colouring book - handy to keep in your bag with a pack of mini crayons for those 'I'm bored moments'

You can colour them in then cut them out to make little play characters. There are instructions for both in the PDF below. (If need to click through to the blog to print it)

Waldorf Stars...

I think these Waldolf style are so pretty and a great way to brighten up a window and best of all they are easy to make! I found some lovely semi-transparent origami paper and decided that it would be perfect for this project.
