The boy and his pottery...

Ebi-kun has had his pottery back, he made a wall hanger this time and a small bowl. I'm not sure where the wall hanging is going to live yet, we are running out of wall space!

I think next time we do it, we will ask if the parents can join in too, it is fun to watch the kids but I am always itching to get in there and do it too!

The dish he made last year is a cereal bowl sort of size, this is a small side dish and in Japan, you can never have enough small dishes.

Do you remember a while ago I told you that we went to a pottery class with some friends? Well, at the weekend we got the dish back that Ebi-kun made. And I must say, it looks really good!

On the bottom he wrote his name (I have smudged it on the pic) and the date and it is stamped all around the edge. He also chose the colour of the glaze, surprisingly he didn't go for green this time.

So late nights dinner, penne with asparagus, broccoli and bacon in a garlic cream sauce served in a dish made by his own hand. Now he has the handmade dish, glass and chopsticks, next up a fork? Anyone know of a fork making class?

With a bit of the left over clay he made me a devil pendant, I think it was going to be a monkey but it didn't turn out quite right.

Plate making with friends..

The other day we joined friends in a pottery class, Ebi-kun wanted to make a dish and the other boys made mugs. The weather was awful so it was great to have something to do indoors.

The teacher, Junko is one of Amy's students and was very patient with the boys, she usually teaches 4th grade kids who are able to a lot more by themselves but the boys did really well.

I wanted to get in there and have a go myself, maybe next time! The pottery studio was rather cute, I love this bamboo storage idea for paintbrushes, I think I will have to have a go at making one and yes, this is her real phone.

After the class the boys had to choose which colour glaze they wanted and then they ended up outside - in the rain. Junko dug up a couple of these bamboo shoots and gave them to us, I didn't have a clue what to do with it. I got some advice from some online friends but then never got round to preparing it. I will know what to do with it new time!

All in all it was a fun day, the items that they made need to dry for 3 weeks before they can be fired so it will be a while before we get to see the finished pieces.
