Halloween Punch For Kids

Another quick and easy recipe. Not sure I can actually call this a recipe but it looks pretty awesome.

What you need:
  • Canned lychee
  • Blueberries
  • Some kind of pop - I used apple sour
Drain your lychee then pop a blueberry inside the lychee. I used frozen berries and put the lychee/blueberry eyes back in the freezer until I needed them. I worked quickly so the blueberries didn't have chance to defrost.

When you are ready, dump the eyes in the punch bowl and add your drink - Bam, done.

A Ghoulish Feast fit for a Zombie King...

Last Halloween post for the year, promise!
It is a tradition that I serve up something especially delicious revolting for Halloween dinner. I usually do a Halloween Muffin Tin Dinner but I decided this year to make use of the new punch bowl set.

Starting bottom left and going clockwise we have...

Frankenstein gloop
Zombie brain with fresh guts
Freshly harvested large intestines with flayed skin
Ground bones with crudities - yes, even Zombie Kings need their 5 a day
Pickled skeleton brain
Oh YUM!

No doubt you want to know what I really feed my son...
Frankenstein gloop -green smoothie made with spinach, mango, banana & kiwi
Zombie brain with fresh guts - Strawberry puree with a jelly (jello) brain
Freshly harvested large intestines with flayed skin - pasta in tomato sauce and parma ham
Ground bones with crudities - hummus with cucumber & carrot sticks
Pickled skeleton brain - hard boiled egg, I cracked the shell and left it in a pot of red water to get the effect.

See, pretty healthy after all!

We also carved a pumpkin, this is a big deal because there are no pumpkin patches to go and pick one here, some of the supermarkets sell them - at an extortionate price I may add. We dropped lucky, when we went to the zoo last week, they had a few for sale for ¥500.

We are beginners at all this, we never did pumpkin carving as a kid, we used swede if anything. I think having the proper tools would help, I had horrible visions of real severed fingers, thankfully we finished without a spot of blood spilt!

That is all the gruesome stuff out of the way, until next next year....

Halloween 2012...

Halloween is by far the favourite festival of the year in this house, Ebi-kun has been excited for months and changed his outfit idea about 76 times! He finally decided we should be a zombie family, I was secretly relieved because it is possibly the easiest costume to pull off!
I must say, we were looking particularly gorgeous when we set off...

My husband was worried that we might cause a car accident but the weather was horrible so I doubt anyone could see in anyway. Of course Ebi-kun decided he needed the toilet so we had to stop at a 7/11, highly amusing!

I rustled up some small intestines with freshly picked eyeballs and severed fingers, we always do our parties as pot luck and it amuses me to no end to hear the kids asking for a couple of fingers, eyeballs or brains!

The punch bowl was a big hit, I added some extra eyeballs and worms in there too - yes, I am revolting!

We were lucky, when it came time for Trick or Treat the rain had eased up, when the kids had collected their treats we went back and played games. Jack had decorated their garage into a haunted house so there was storytelling in the dark, which was fun.

I had made the scratch cards which the kids really got into and they all went away with scars and vampire bites. Poor K-kun won 'The Zombie Kiss', he didn't look very impressed lol.

There were some crafts and lots of candy eating. The rain stopped again so the boys went out to play football, all in all it was another great party. Ebi-kun is already planning what to wear next year....

Of Punch Bowls and Sheep...

Hope you had a good weekend, our was great. Managed to get quite a bit in without running round like headless chickens, which is always a plus. So Saturday we did our weekly shop. A new supermarket opened recently and their range of fruit and veg is much better than our usual store. We are still being careful about buying from the affected areas so it is great to have a bit more choice.

Daddy Ebi had bought tickets for him and Ebi-kun to go and see the football, so I went into town with them, had a lovely lunch together and then I went a did a bit of shopping. I was looking for face paint when I came across this great punch bowl set. I think it was old stock they were trying to get of since they had marked all the pieces individually and everything was reduced. The whole lot cost me less than ¥1000 and this was in Loft! (those is Japan will know that Loft isn't cheap!)
Ebi-kun just keeps saying "I can't believe you found something so cool"

I got home and had intended to just do some sewing but I got side-tracked and ended up on Skype, helping a friend with her website and then I got some sewing done. This little fella popped into my head the other day and I have been itching to make him. I am pretty much in love with him but his ears need working on, not quite right.

Actually, I'm not sure if it is a girl or a boy and I haven't come up with a name yet. What would you call him/her?
