Just last Thursday, I was having a nice long soak in the bath and I started to think about all the quick and easy activities I have squirrelled up my metaphorical sleeve. Then I started to think that I really should put them all together in a book.

Lots of my ideas stem from my teaching days, where I had very little equipment and had to think on my feet, a lot! As Halloween is just around the corner, I figured that would be a great place to start and you know how much I love doing Halloween food!

Water - Action Pack - Win A Copy

As you know I am an Action Pack fan and this year Kathreen has changed it up a bit. We explored density towers which was as much fun for me as it was ebi-kun and we followed it up with some of his own experiments, that is one of the things I love about kitchen science, follow up experiments can easily be done without any worry of setting of some kind of dangerous chemical reaction (chemistry was not a strong subject for me at school)!

Mission Explore Food - free download

Ebi-kun got a great book for Christmas called Mission Explore Food. He doesn't really need much encouragement to experiment with food, he loves trying new things and will often pick things on a menu because he doesn't know what it is! I can see this book furthering his interest and helping him learn about where all the different types of food come from.

The book is split into 6 main chapters; Grow, Harvest, Cook, Eat, Waste and Soil. Each chapter has a selection of experiments and missions for your child to complete. Some of them sound great and some are well, pretty revolting but I suppose that makes it more fun.

I think anyone who wants to do more with their children to learn about food or for teachers this book is an excellent resource. Not all the missions are laid out for you step-by-step which encourages the child to think for themselves and come up with a solution.

I also like how everything has been covered, there are missions challenging you to try different specialist diets for a day such as raw food and some of the missions can be drawn or written about in the book. I also feel it is well designed to grab boys attentions by calling each experiment a mission, the illustrations are fun and not too gross.

I would like to thank everyone for their input and comments about the mini blog series. I decided to bundle all the posts together to make it into an ebook. I have used a new service which means you can read the book on your iPad, kindle, computer - anything really. You get 3 formats so that it is compatible with whatever you want to read it on.
